Hamburg’s Florian Kruse is a bright new light in house music. Following collaborations with Nils Nürnberg and releases on Urbantorque, Om Records, and Dieb Audio, his debut for Chicago’s Fresh Meat, “The Drive EP”, conjures up the early 1990’s warehouse era in all their melodic soul-stirring glory. There is great separation, however, between poaching from the past and reinventing it. Florian’s E.P. is wildly creative and unique – his mining from our shared house experience culminates in the three stunningly original tracks featured here.

Fresh Meat’s first single of 2009 comes courtesy of Tuomas Salmela under his Phonogenic alias. Tuomas has been working the European dance music underground for years. You should be familiar with his releases on 20:20 Vision, Mood Music, Poker Flat or even the late Chicago giant Guidance Recordings. More recently he released “The Last Beer on Earth” on Sven Vath’s Cocoon Recordings, gaining massive support – including frequent plays on BBC Radio One’s Essential Mix by John Digweed. His recent collaboration with Jori Hulkkonen as Discemi lead to standout releases in 2008 on two of dance music’s most influential labels, Get Physical Music and Rekids.

‘New Day’ is Nathan Drew Larsen’s fifth collection of original music for Fresh Meat. As a Chicago native, Nathan’s music has always been influenced by the city’s house tradition. In this latest installment, Nathan’s emotional connection to Chicago is sublimely complicated by his creative nature and post-house approach. The three songs featured here have no real contemporary equivalent. Rejecting minimalist fashion and nostalgic sycophants, each track on ‘New Day’ brims with playful melodies, meticulous chord progressions, unusual arrangements, and fuzzy psychedelica.

Before leaving, he co-produced “Tape Replay” with Mazi (Audio Soul Project) and Nathan (Drew Larsen) from Fresh Meat. Kyle’s debut EP, found here, features two analog gems, “Pancakes” and “In Between”. The release includes U.S. remixes by two of today’s most interesting post-house talents – Worthy of Dirty Bird and Leftroom Ltd and Fresh Meat’s in-house wunderkind Nathan Drew Larsen.
